A 44-foot full-carbon powerboat for Mayla Yachts: the attitude of the 1970s and ’80s go-fast boats reinterpreted through contemporary engineering, a stepped Petestep® hull and up to 3,100 hp.

THE IDEA

Mayla GT was conceived as a new kind of high-performance yacht: one that brings the philosophy of the automotive restomod movement to the water. As restomods gained momentum in the car world — combining the character and emotional appeal of classic performance machines with contemporary engineering, materials and technology — the question was how that same approach could be translated into a modern powerboat.

THE DESIGN RESPONSE

The design draws on the legendary go-fast boats of the 1970s and 1980s, keeping their low stance, aggressive proportions and unmistakable sense of speed while reinterpreting them through a distinctly modern lens. Rather than a retro boat, Mayla GT takes the attitude of that era and evolves it into a retro-futuristic object, with angular surfaces, stretched proportions and an almost aerospace-like silhouette. At 44 feet it sits visually somewhere between a racing powerboat and a contemporary performance yacht.

LIGHT, AND QUICK WITH IT

Lightweight full-carbon-fibre construction lets the boat combine substantial power with relatively low displacement, giving rapid acceleration, responsive handling and a very direct connection between driver and machine. Plugs were five-axis milled and finished in the composites workshop before laminating, with the structural laminate verified through finite element analysis.

HULL AND EFFICIENCY

The performance philosophy extends beneath the surface. The boat uses a deep-V hull with twin transverse steps, combined with patented Petestep® deflectors that control water flow beneath the hull more efficiently. According to Mayla, the system can reduce energy consumption by as much as 35% while improving planing efficiency, helping the boat hold speed and stability on less energy.

WORKING WITH SPECIALISTS

The project was developed through collaboration between several specialist teams. The original underwater hull geometry was created by Hans Genthe, with the underwater surfaces subsequently modified using Petestep® technology in coordination with him. Structural design and engineering were carried out by Solico, while the interior was later modified and further developed by Mayla Yachts.

INSIDE

Inside, the objective was to balance the uncompromising exterior character with the comfort expected of a yacht. A full cabin and carefully developed interior details turn what visually reads as a pure performance machine into a boat capable of a much broader ownership experience.

POWER TO CHOOSE

Mayla GT can be configured with gasoline, diesel, electric and hybrid propulsion. Depending on the setup, output ranges from roughly 1,300 hp to 3,100 hp, giving the platform the potential for extreme performance while letting individual configurations prioritise speed, range or efficiency.
